Axelera Europa
European in-memory-compute AI processor for edge and data-center inference
Axelera AI launched its Europa AI processing unit on September 15, 2026, quadrupling the memory of its earlier Metis chip to 64GB and rating it at up to 629 TOPS of INT8 performance. Eight second-generation AI cores use Axelera’s digital in-memory-compute design to cut the energy cost of moving data, backed by two clusters of RISC-V vector cores handling non-AI pre- and post-processing, 128MB of L2 SRAM, and 200 Gbps of DRAM bandwidth.
The chip ships as a bare die for custom boards or in two validated PCIe cards, the half-length Edge 232p and full-length Server 250p, with Dell and Supermicro systems already certified. Axelera, based in the Netherlands, is pitching Europa as a lower-power alternative to GPU-based inference for European AI infrastructure buildouts, and says its sales pipeline for the platform already tops $1.5 billion.
