EXAONE 3.0 is a bilingual Korean-English language model LG AI Research released in August 2024, with a 7.8B-parameter instruction-tuned version made available on Hugging Face and a 4,096-token context window. It was trained to handle both languages at a similar level of quality rather than treating English as primary and Korean as an afterthought, which was the main gap LG was trying to close relative to Western open models of the time. The model is distributed under LG’s own EXAONE license, which permits research and non-commercial use but restricts commercial deployment without a separate agreement. LG replaced it a few months later with EXAONE 3.5, which extended the context window to 32,000 tokens and added smaller and larger model sizes.
