FLUX.1 Krea
Black Forest Labs and Krea's collaborative model tuned against over-stylised 'AI look'
FLUX.1 Krea is a text-to-image model Black Forest Labs built together with Krea, an AI creative tools startup, and released as open weights on July 31, 2025. The two companies designed it specifically to avoid the oversaturated, overly smooth look common to many diffusion models, aiming instead for more photorealistic, less obviously AI-generated output. It’s a 12 billion parameter rectified-flow model distilled from Krea’s own Krea 1 model, and it’s built to be compatible with the existing FLUX.1 dev ecosystem, so tools, LoRAs, and workflows built around FLUX.1 dev work with it directly. Black Forest Labs released the dev version on Hugging Face under its non-commercial license, with commercial use requiring a separate license through BFL’s portal. The collaboration reflects a broader pattern in image generation during 2025, where model labs partnered with product-focused startups to fix a specific complaint from users: that AI images all started to look the same.
