Fugu Ultra v2 is Sakana AI’s flagship orchestration model, released September 11, 2026 at $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens for standard context lengths. Rather than being trained as one network, it routes and recombines a pool of open-weight and specialized models under a 1 million token context window. On Chartography, Sakana’s visual-reasoning and data-interpretation benchmark, it scored 48.3 against 27.3 for Anthropic’s Opus 5 and 29.5 for Fable 5.

That gap is the whole argument for the approach: a well-run committee of specialist models, Sakana says, can beat a single frontier model on tasks that reward breaking a problem into pieces and routing each piece to whichever model handles it best.
