Gemini 1.0 Pro is the mid-tier model from Google’s first Gemini family, launched on December 6, 2023 alongside Nano and Ultra. It handles text and images, runs with a 32,768-token context window, and was built to be a faster, cheaper option than Ultra for everyday chat and API use while still beating Google’s older PaLM 2 models on most benchmarks. It scored 71.8 on MMLU and 67.7 on HumanEval at launch, putting it roughly in line with GPT-3.5 on many tasks.

Google made Gemini 1.0 Pro available through the Gemini app (then still branded Bard in some markets) and through the Gemini API and Vertex AI. It was the workhorse tier of the 1.0 generation until Google replaced it with Gemini 1.5 Pro in early 2024, and it is now considered a legacy model within Google’s lineup.
