Gemini 3.6 Flash replaced Gemini 3.5 Flash as Google’s default workhorse model on July 21, 2026, part of a three-model July drop that also included Flash-Lite and a restricted Flash Cyber variant, with Gemini 3.5 Pro still not shipped. It keeps the 1,048,576 token context window and 65,536 token output ceiling, moves the knowledge cutoff to March 2026, and uses about 17 percent fewer output tokens than its predecessor while scoring higher on coding, long-context, and computer-use benchmarks, including a jump from 37 to 49 percent on DeepSWE. Output pricing dropped from $9.00 to $7.50 per million tokens, with input still at $1.50 per million and cached input at $0.15 per million. Independent evaluations are more mixed than Google’s own numbers suggest: the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index scores it even with 3.5 Flash, and community coding tests put it behind GPT-5.6 Luna, Grok 4.5, and Kimi K3 on several tasks.
