Google's second-generation text-to-image model with improved photorealism and text rendering
Imagen 2 is Google DeepMind’s second-generation text-to-image model, previewed at Google I/O in May 2023 and made generally available on Vertex AI in December 2023. It improved photorealism and added logo and text rendering, an area where the original Imagen and most contemporaries were noticeably weak. Google positioned it as an enterprise-ready image model rather than a consumer toy, shipping it through Vertex AI with the customization tooling, managed infrastructure, and safety filtering that business customers expect from a cloud platform product. It later gained a short video-clip generation mode inside Vertex AI. Imagen 2 sat in Google’s lineup between the original Imagen research model and the more capable Imagen 3, which replaced it as Google’s primary image model through 2024.
