Inflection-2.5 is Inflection AI’s upgraded model for its Pi assistant, released in March 2024. The company said it reached roughly 94% of GPT-4’s average benchmark performance while using only about 40% of the training compute, a claim aimed at showing that Inflection could compete with the leading labs without matching their spending. It posted strong scores on MMLU, GPQA, and a set of STEM exams, and Inflection CEO Mustafa Suleyman described it at launch as “neck and neck with GPT-4 for quality.”

The release came at a turbulent moment for the company: shortly after, Suleyman and much of Inflection’s research team departed for Microsoft, and Inflection shifted its focus toward enterprise AI rather than the Pi consumer product. Inflection-2.5 remained available inside Pi and briefly through limited API access, but it never got the broad developer distribution that OpenAI’s and Google’s comparable models had.
