Jurassic-2 Mid is the middle tier of AI21 Labs’ Jurassic-2 model family, announced in March 2023 as a replacement for Jurassic-1. AI21 positioned it between the smaller Jurassic-2 Light and the larger Jurassic-2 Ultra, aiming for a balance of quality and cost that suited tasks like summarization, question answering, and text generation without the price of the top-tier model. Like the rest of the Jurassic-2 line, AI21 never disclosed its parameter count, and the model supports a context window of 8,192 tokens. It was available exclusively through AI21 Studio’s API and through Amazon Bedrock, with no open-weight release. AI21 has since shifted its product focus to the Jamba family of hybrid transformer-Mamba models, and Jurassic-2 Mid is now a legacy offering kept around mainly for existing customers rather than new development.
