Luma Ray 3

Luma Ray 3 is Luma AI’s flagship video generation model, released in September 2025 as what the company calls the first reasoning video model. Rather than generating pixels directly from a prompt, Ray 3 produces both text and visual tokens as it works, planning a scene and checking its own output before finalizing a clip, similar to a director sketching a storyboard before shooting. It is also the first video model to output true 10, 12, and 16-bit HDR footage in ACES2065-1 EXR format, aimed at professional film and advertising pipelines rather than just social clips. A Draft Mode lets users generate many quick low-cost variations before committing to a final high-resolution HDR render, and Adobe added Ray 3 to Firefly shortly after launch, giving it a route into mainstream creative software.
