Qwen3.8-Max is Alibaba’s largest and most capable model to date, previewed July 19, 2026 and officially launched August 3 with published specs and pricing. It’s a sparse mixture-of-experts model with 2.4 trillion total parameters and roughly 95 billion active per token, handles text, image, and video input across a 1 million token context window, and Alibaba has pitched it as trailing only Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 on its own benchmark comparisons. It ranked fifth in Text Arena and second in Vision Arena shortly after launch. The model is available now through Alibaba Cloud’s Model Studio and Qwen Chat, with open weights planned for release the following week, which would make it the largest model Alibaba has open-sourced at this scale.
