Runway Gen-5

Runway Gen-5 is the follow-up to Gen-4, extending maximum clip length and giving directors finer camera control: pans, tilts, and focus pulls specified as explicit parameters rather than left for the model to infer from a text prompt. Like its predecessors it takes text and image input and outputs video, available through Runway’s own app and API rather than as open weights.

Runway has kept pace with Google’s Veo and OpenAI’s Sora releases by shipping frequently and leaning into workflow features (multi-shot consistency, motion brushes, camera controls) that professional editors ask for, rather than only chasing raw fidelity. Gen-5 continues that pattern, with Runway pitching it primarily at studios and ad agencies already using Gen-4 in production pipelines rather than at hobbyist creators.
