Better Stack started with uptime monitoring, checking websites and APIs and alerting the team when something fails. It has since added more of the operations toolkit. Telemetry covers logs and metrics, with fast search over large volumes, and incident management handles on-call schedules and escalation, with calls, texts, and chat alerts.

Public and private status pages let companies tell customers what is going on during an outage. The pieces work together: a failed check can open an incident, notify the person on call, and update the status page. The pitch is lower cost and less setup than assembling Datadog, PagerDuty, and Statuspage.

Better Stack has a free tier and pay-as-you-go pricing for monitors, logs, and seats. Its observability depth is smaller than that of a giant platform, so very large systems may outgrow it. AI features help summarize incidents and find causes. Alternatives include Datadog, Grafana Cloud, PagerDuty, Sentry, and UptimeRobot. Better Stack suits small and mid-sized engineering teams.
