Final Cut Pro is Apple’s answer to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, built to take advantage of Apple hardware. Its magnetic timeline keeps clips connected so that moving or deleting one does not leave gaps or throw other clips out of sync, which many editors find faster than a traditional track-based layout. It is well known for smooth performance with high-resolution footage on Mac, support for professional formats, and tight integration with Motion for graphics and Compressor for output.

Machine learning appears throughout the app. Transcribe to Captions turns speech into subtitles, Magnetic Mask isolates people and objects without a green screen, and object tracking follows a subject so titles and effects stay attached to it. Voice Isolation and noise reduction clean up audio, Smart Conform reframes video for different aspect ratios, and scene detection helps organize footage. These tools run on the device and use Apple silicon.

On Mac, Final Cut Pro is a one-time purchase, which many editors prefer to subscriptions, while the iPad version is sold by subscription. It works only on Apple devices, which limits teams that use Windows, and it has fewer third-party collaboration tools than Premiere. DaVinci Resolve is the main alternative for color and cross-platform work, Premiere Pro leads in shared studio workflows, and iMovie and CapCut cover simpler needs. For solo creators on Mac, it is a leading choice.
