Spark is Google’s move toward an always-on assistant. You give it jobs, such as pulling together information from your inbox and documents, preparing for a trip, or following up on a task over several days, and it works in the background on dedicated virtual machines in Google’s cloud. Because it runs there, it keeps going even when your phone or laptop is off, and it reports back with results.

Control is part of the design. Spark asks for permission before taking significant actions such as sending messages or making purchases, and users can set skills and schedules to automate recurring work. It starts with Gmail, Docs, and other Google services, and connects to outside tools through the Model Context Protocol and integrations. On Android, a running agent’s progress is meant to be visible at the top of the screen.

Spark has been available first to subscribers of Google’s highest AI plan in the United States, with later expansion to more countries and languages, and pricing and availability keep changing. As with other agents, privacy, errors, and access to personal accounts are considerations. Comparable products include OpenAI’s Dots and ChatGPT Work, Claude Duet and Cowork, and Meta’s Muse.
