Microsoft 365 Copilot is the business version of Microsoft’s AI, and its main advantage is context. It can see your files, emails, calendar, chats, and meetings through Microsoft Graph, within the permissions you already have. In Word it drafts and rewrites documents based on other files, in Outlook it summarizes long threads and drafts replies, and in Teams it recaps meetings, lists decisions, and answers questions about what was discussed. PowerPoint can build a deck from a document, and Excel can explain formulas and analyze data with plain-language prompts.

There is also a chat interface that works across the whole suite, where you can ask for a summary of everything on a client or project from recent emails and files. Agents extend this: Researcher and Analyst handle longer research and data tasks, and Copilot Studio lets organizations build their own agents connected to company systems. Administrators control access, sensitivity labels, and data protection, and Microsoft says prompts and responses are not used to train its base models.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is sold as a per-user add-on to qualifying Microsoft 365 business or enterprise plans, so the cost adds to the existing license. Results depend on how organized the underlying files and permissions are: it can surface documents people did not realize they could see. Value varies by role, with heavy email and document users seeing the most benefit. Google Gemini for Workspace is the direct competitor, and ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude overlap for some tasks.
