Presence is an enterprise platform from OpenAI for building and running AI agents that handle voice and chat conversations across customer support and internal workflows. It combines OpenAI's models with a company's own policies, permissions, and escalation rules, so an agent can look up account details, take pre-approved actions, and hand a conversation to a human when it hits the edge of what it's allowed to do. It launched through a limited general availability program with OpenAI's own deployment engineers guiding early rollouts rather than as a self-serve product, and OpenAI already runs part of its own phone support line on it.
