Slackbot used to be a simple helper that answered canned questions. It has been rebuilt as an agent that works across a Slack workspace. You can ask it to find a decision made in a channel, summarize a thread, draft a message or a document, schedule a meeting from calendar availability, or pull together information from several conversations, and it answers using content you already have permission to see.

Beyond answering, it can take actions. Slackbot can post, set reminders, update records through connected apps, and delegate longer tasks to agents built with Salesforce’s Agentforce, tying Slack more closely to the rest of Salesforce’s platform. Slack has used models from partners to power it, and the assistant adapts to the user’s context and role within the workspace.

Slackbot’s AI features are part of Slack’s paid Business+ and Enterprise+ plans, with a more limited version on lower tiers. As with other workplace assistants, answers depend on the quality of Slack content, and administrators should review data access settings. Alternatives include Microsoft Copilot in Teams, Google Gemini in Chat, Notion AI, and Glean for cross-app search. Slackbot suits teams that already run their work through Slack.
