Sora is OpenAI's text-to-video generation model, first shown in early 2024 as a leap over anything else available at the time and later shipped as a standalone app. It could produce coherent, minute-long clips with consistent characters and camera movement from a single prompt, which was well ahead of most competitors on release. OpenAI has since folded video generation into its broader model lineup and is sunsetting Sora as a separate product through 2026, so new projects are better off building on whatever replaces it.
