Windsurf is Codeium's AI-first code editor built around an agentic AI called Cascade that can autonomously read, write, and execute code across an entire project. Unlike assistants that respond to individual prompts, Cascade maintains awareness of what it has done and what remains to complete a task end-to-end. Cognition, which acquired Codeium, retired the Windsurf name in June 2026 and folded the editor into Devin Desktop, so new users are more likely to encounter it under that name.
